Meet The Designer: Meghan Bartlett

March 24, 2022

Our team and the dedication of our designers are what make branding and website projects with The Mug Creative such an intimate and fun experience.

Each and every project we work on at The Mug requires us to deep-dive into the heart of your business. We feel that the only way to truly understand the vision of our clients is to understand your story and journey on a more profound level.

Instead of sticking with our typical educational and informational content, we thought it would be fun to switch it up and share a little bit more about each of us, your designers, in a “Meet The Designer” series!

First in the lineup- Meghan!

Meghan is one of the OG team members here at the Mug and has been a crucial asset to our team over the years. She’s got a heart of gold and we’re so excited to put the spotlight on her this week and share her journey in design with you.

Tell us a little about yourself (where you’re from, college, etc).

I grew up in Alaska! I went to college for a year at USF and during my time in the Tampa area, I met Nicole! I came back to Alaska to finish my degree in Graphic Design. I have a background working in marketing and other odd jobs. I was inspired to make a career change which is when I reached out to Nicole for advice. Since then, I’ve been working with The Mug!!

How did you get started in design and why did you decide to make it your career?

I’ve always been creative and ever since I can remember I wanted to do something with art and design. I specifically remember taking a class in high school where we learned how to use Photoshop. The assignment was to create mock magazine cover designs. After this class, I was pretty set on doing something related to design for a career.

How would you define your personal design style?

I’ve always been drawn to more timeless designs. I would say my personal design style is a good balance between classic, minimal and modern.
If you were a mood board, what would it look like? (I think this could be fun to include just a small little mood board!)

What is your current favorite font or font pairing?

I really like the Cheque font! I don’t have a specific use for it but it reminds me of a hand-drawn font I saw recently on vacation!

What design tool is your go-to?

I’ve always favored Illustrator, it’s really difficult to choose though! Adobe has so many amazing tools!!

What existing brand do you love and why?

As far as brand design goes, I love Anthropologie! I admire the way that their logo is so simple and timeless, yet they’re able to implement design trends in other ways throughout their advertisements and it never looks out of place.

How do you get in “the zone”?

To get in the zone, I make a cup of tea and put on a playlist (probably something indie or alternative) and get to work! Nothing too crazy! If I’m in a rut, I like to get outside and go on a walk.

What is your favorite part of the design process?

Well, other than the presentation and handing over the finished product, I really love the brainstorming phase of the design process. I love researching and gathering inspiration based on the wishes of the client!

What do you enjoy most about being a brand and web designer?

I absolutely love the work, it truly doesn’t feel like work much of the time! I love working with a client to cultivate their vision and bring it to life!
